You should get Lightroom! (I think 4 just came out) Greatest post processing and organizer I have ever used. I tried Aperture on the mac, but it is a resource whore! You can get all kinds of AWESOME powerful Add-ons!

| I'm pretty happy with what I'm getting right now for results. I want to start working on getting into video editing. I'd love to have about 4-5 GoPro's to mount on a car at any time to get different angles, etc. | |

in that case a mac with "Final Cut" (unfortunately it is only available for macs) it is the industry standard. A close second would be Adobe's Premier. It is Adobes attempt at Final Cut, awesome program. I use both. Premier seems a little easier to use if you are new and unexperienced in video editing!

that is when you get a professional program and learn the basics then as you grow in exp. you won't outgrow your program!

| Premier Elements sucks the big one. I can get more done on iMovie than in PE. Is Premier really worth the $? | |

Premier is not bad. it is Adobe's version of Final Cut (the programs are almost identical). Final Cut is what Hollywood and every major TV channel uses! Premier is great in the fact of how you can incorporate all of Adobe programs, (PS/Illustrator/Fireworks/After effect) works flawless with it (adobe products will also work with Final Cut) I have not used iMovie, but I might dabble with it this weekend. Final Cut and Premier is over kill if you are just doing simple edits! I felt Premier and Final Cut easy enough for a beginner to use and as I mentioned earlier, as your exp grows and you want to do more, you will have a program you WILL NOT out grow! Sorry just read Premeire Elements, I am not sure if that is different than premier PRo

| My sense is that elements is severely dumbed-down. It doesn't even use th standard Mac UI controls... It's like it runs in Flash or something, which must add a lot of overhead. I have a MBP 2011 with quad-core, 8gb ram, and SSD, and it takes forever to do anything with even a small video. | |

hmm... my iMac is Quad Core i5 with 4gb Ram and Final Cut runs fine. A little slow on Rendering, but even in the University where we run i7 Quad cores with 16mb Ram the Rendering is a little slow. I have a HP laptop dual core i7 with 6gb Ram and the Adobe PremierPro Rendering (always the slowest part of any video editing) is LIGHTING Fast! Split second fast! I have no idea why Premeier elements is running slow on your MBP. It sounds like you have overkill power to run that program. I would maybe check your scratch disk setting. Do you use an external... etc that would be causing the slow down. I am pretty sure anything Adobe Elements is its "baby" program for beginners so I cannot fathom why it lags on your laptop!
